We’re supposed to be getting to bed early tonight because tomorrow, at 5am, we leave for our 5 day trek to Machu Picchu via Salkantay.

Eva got some “gear” in the Cuzco for the trek
We are climbing up from Cuzco, which is at about 11,000 ft., to a pass under Salkantay Mountain which will put us up at 15,255 ft. The first night is supposedly very cold, falling to about 0°C, with the snowy mountain (dubbed “The Savage”) in the background. The total trek demands over 37 miles from us, with 8 and 10 hour days.
The altitude has thus far treated us well. We’ve had plenty of days at elevation in Cuzco and higher at Lake Titicaca. We’ve been drinking our coca tea like good boys and girls, and laying off the booze (which is really hurting our beer average over at Daytum, by the way…). Eva’s only major symptom is pins and needles in her hands and feet, and Jeremy has been in the clear!
Wish us luck, and endurance! We hope we can update with some lovely photos of our efforts in a few days.
